Some Updates

Is there anyone out there?

If there is, I just wanted to mention a few updates since it’s been a while since my last post. I got home recently from a lengthy vacation and have been just trying to catch up after being away. I’ve decided to put the test framework project on hold in favor of some more concrete (and less self-referential) projects, and I think the Evergreen framework will be better for it in the end.

That leaves a lot of possibilities for where to go next, and I have quite a few in mind. My current leaning is to build a database engine (alongside a DBMS client application) that stores its data in flat CSV files. Sounds like a security nightmare, but I have some use cases in mind for it, and I think it would be a good learning opportunity that would support some other things I’m working on.

At the moment though, I haven’t firmly settled on that course. I have, however, done a lot of thinking about the kinds of projects that I think would be fun to build for this little blog, and so I put together an initial list of potential future projects, which you can see here.

Finally, if there is in fact anyone out in the void listening as I ramble into it, I’d love to hear your thoughts on projects about which you’d like to see written (or on my previous and future posts), so I added comment threads to the site. I’m using the third-party commenting system Disqus for now. In the future I may migrate comments to something self-hosted and open source (or perhaps written from scratch), but since I have a lot of other things I’d like to do with TWFS, I’m going with the quick off-the-shelf solution for the time being.

Please leave any thoughts, questions, recommendations, or whatever else might be relevant in these threads, or feel free to reach out to me at admin@thewebfromscratch.com.

Thanks for reading,
